Guard Dogs

Our Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs) are purpose-bred to protect livestock, maintain order, and create a safe environment for every animal in our care.

At Fat Cow Foundation, each LGD has space to work, and training tailored to their instinct and temperament. Some stay on the ranch as working guardians; others are rehabilitated and placed into homes or ranches where their skills are truly needed.

These dogs aren’t just part of the team, they’re essential partners in keeping our livestock safe and our ranch running smoothly.

Herding

Dogs

Our herding dogs are high-drive, intelligent workers with a natural instinct to move livestock. Many come to us needing structure, training, or simply a job that matches their abilities. Here, they get room to run, daily mental engagement, and opportunities to develop the talent they were born with.

Whether they’re learning stock work, rebuilding confidence, or transitioning into a new home, each dog receives individualized care and training. Some stay on the ranch to assist with cattle and goats; others are matched with families or working homes where their energy and drive are put to good use.

The

Hounds

At Fat Cow Foundation we breed select hounds with sound temperaments, strong working ability, and healthy genetics ensuring each pup is set up for success from day one. At the same time, we open our doors to hounds in need, giving them safety, structure, and a chance to rebuild after difficult situations.

Here, every hound, whether bred or rescue, receives proper care, enrichment, and placement based on their needs. Some become working partners, and others settle beautifully into family homes.

The Petting Zoo

Our petting zoo is home to a rotating group of gentle animals. Rabbits, goats, ponies, and more. Many of these animals come to us needing a safe place to land, extra attention, or a second chance. Here, they become ambassadors for education and kindness.

Every animal help us teach children how to feed, handle, and respect animals, building the next generation of responsible animal owners.

These animals don’t just bring joy, they help us fulfill our mission by inspiring families to value the well-being of every creature.

Golden Reins

Golden Reins is our small retirement program for horses who have spent their lives working cattle.

Because proper retirement care is expensive, feed, farrier work, vet care, and daily support, we keep this program small to ensure every horse gets the attention and comfort they deserve. Here, they have a quiet place to slow down, recover, and live safely without the demands of ranch work.

Golden Reins exists for one purpose: to give retired horses a steady, reliable home for the rest of their lives.

Highland Herd

Our Highland cattle are a core part of the ranch and play a direct role in our veteran and senior feed program. Highlands are hardy, calm, and well-suited for Wyoming’s weather, making them an ideal fit for sustainable, long-term herd management.

The Highland herd helps us support our community programs while maintaining a strong, healthy ranch operation.

We are bursting at the seams and growing. In order to take in more animals in need, we need more room. We are raising funds to purchase and build a bigger facility where we can house 100+ dogs and more livestock.

Mail Call

Snail mail is a great way to stay in touch. It slows things down, keeps the skill of writing alive, and is a great way to connect with seniors who may be lonely. In our Mail Call program we connect vets and seniors with a penpal who would like to keep up on old school communication.
